At Dance Teacher – Latin, we teach Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, and Disco in pairs — fun, social dances that anyone can learn, even as a complete beginner. We bring joy, energy, and confidence to every lesson. Here’s a bit more about each style:

We will make sure to bring a lot of joy and excitement to the course. Here’s a
bit more about each:

SALSA

Salsa is a lively social dance with deep roots in Cuba and Puerto Rico, later developed into its modern form in 1970s New York City. It’s known for quick steps, smooth turns, rhythmic body movement, and a joyful, energetic feel.

One of the most popular versions danced today is LA Style (Salsa On1), created in Los Angeles. LA Style is danced “on 1” and is famous for its sharp, dynamic movements, clean lines, and exciting turn patterns often seen in performances. It keeps the Caribbean musical foundation but adds a modern, show‑style flair that many beginners enjoy.

MERENGUE

Merengue comes from the Dominican Republic and is one of the easiest Latin dances to learn. It features simple, rhythmic steps that make it accessible for beginners.

The steps go with the music in a steady, marching feel, giving the dance an upbeat and confident character.

We also use this music to practise all the moves from Salsa, Bachata and Disco.

  • We look forward to next lessons!!.

“We had a wonderful experience last night. First dancing attempt in years, so it was a ‘little bit’ nerve-racking decision for both, my friend and I, to come to the class.”

  • Warmly welcomed and relaxed

“Paul, you are are an excellent teacher!!
We felt warmly welcomed and relaxed in a short space of time, enjoyed every minute and didn’t notice how three hours(!) passed by. Loved the music selection, too!”

BACHATA

Bachata: Also from the Dominican Republic, is a slower romantic dance. Bachata
has a much slower tempo compared to Salsa and Merengue. It involves close
partner work and smooth, flowing movements.

You can also dance Bachata with more space between partners, which is how I teach it. Different moves, however, need different spacing because of natural body mechanics — it keeps everything comfortable and avoids getting tangled. This is why you might sometimes come a little closer for a few seconds.

Latin Counting to Dancing Moves

SALSA, MERENGUE and BACHATA all use the same counting system, and I even use the same counts for CHA CHA CHA and RUMBA. It’s easier to remember and it works perfectly well, which is why you’ll learn very quickly and pick up everything you need to know.

🕺DISCO💃

Disco Dancing is also a Partner Dance, and I include many of the same moves you learn in Salsa, Merengue and Bachata.

This means that if you come to my other lessons, you’ll find Disco super easy to learn — but it’s not necessary at all.

If you simply enjoy English disco songs, then this is the perfect dance for you.

This dance is very easy to learn — you’ll be amazed at how quickly you pick it up and start doing it straight away!

And don’t forget, we’re planning the Disco Cup for the middle of August 2026 — as long as we get enough people together!

Perfect for friendly town rivalries on the dance floor! I’m looking forward to this so much!
